Which programs do you want Johnny to revisit for the Olympic season?

Really innovative programs are extremely rare. Really? Takahashi's "Hip Hop Swan Lake" or "The Eye"? Lambiel's "Flamenco"? Verner's Gipsy/Asian program? Berntsson's voidy choreographies every year? Chan's "Tango de los exilados"? All of these share very interesting choreographies and movements. But those two are also among my favourite programs of all time. Most programs under COP are kind of starting to repeat themselves year after year, to a certain degree. I liked Verner's FS from last season more than the Asian program. And, well, Chan I still don't get. Berntsson is always fun to watch, but that's his thing, the fun and entertaining, everyone has their thing, like I already mentioned.

Everyone who has been around for a while is "repetitive" and uses the "same moves". Hey Joubert has been skating to Matrix in 3 different programs, and every Lysacek program is the same, just the music changes occasionally. Everyone is repetitive. Yes Dai had "Hip hop swan lake" and it was swell. But what other great innovative programs did he have? His POTO was dissed, as was R&J. Both called by some as "Morozov monstrosities" and very similar to eachother in moves and style. Lambiel? Also has similar moves in all his programs. His Flamenco was a masterpiece, but he skated that for two years straight. And his tango is quite similar in mood and style to flamenco. Chan? There is nothing artistic about him, IMO. He steals other people's choreo, and high-kicks his way into high PCSs on passport priviledges alone. No innovation there either. If you think about it, most skaters have one truly innovative program in their career (Johnny's Swan, Lambiel's Flamenco, Dai's Swan Lake) and when they find what works for them, and they stick with their style. There is nothing wrong with Johnny sticking to the style that works for him. I think Swan Lake would be a great fit for him. If he lands his jumps, the PCS will come.

And if I remember correctly, his twitter 'teaser' quote starts off with: how can a swan be more of a swan then the previous swan. IMHO it certainly sounds like Johnny is far from simply trying to make a program do-over, but an upgrade: that given his talent, capacities, skill level and team is nothing short of extremely exciting to me. After all, Johnny's swan as is, is Iconic. After he's had the chance to tweak it in his own unique style, I expect it will blow people's minds in a similar way that the Fallen Angels routine did if not more so. And I was a bit disappointed by the extent that some of the comments seemed to be trying to tell Johnny what he should or shouldn't do, so controllingly almost. It reminded me of the uproar Johnny's 'Maxim' program caused---to the great lessening of his last Olympic attempt. This is not the time to try to run his skating for him, but to be the most supportive possible.

Senior Angel Posts: 123 (05/31/09 7:47 AM) Senior Angel Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Wow interesting to think about It is my favourite of all of his programs and the reason I fell in love with his skating and started to follow his career this closely. It is not just that the program was gorgeous, it's the way he performed it in Torino, with so much emotion, intensity and finesse that I do not think that it can be done better than then. For me it was just a perfect moment in time I agree completely with that description of the Swan. (My favorite piece of music ever!) It was what made me fall in love with Johnny, and it was just such a perfect untouchable moment that I'm getting teary even thinking about it. While I would LOVE to see the Swan again, I don't want anything to taint what happened in 2006, because it is truly iconic. He owns that music so completely and thoroughly...it actually pains me to see anyone else (with the possible exception of Oksana Baiul) skate to it. I never want to see KoC or CoN, ever, ever again, and I bet that Johnny wouldn't want to skate them just because of the emotional associations. I'm not too crazy about a revamp of either of his programs from '07-'08 or '08-'09, and I doubt he would reuse them just because they're so recent, you know? As far as Rondo Capriccioso (which comes in a close 2nd to the Swan as my favorite music...I'm a huge Saint-Saens afficionado ) and Dr. Zhivago, both of them are beautiful programs. I feel the same way about them as I do about the Swan, but to a lesser degree. I would love seeing either of these again...or Valse Triste, for that matter. Whatever he decides to skate to this season, I hope that he has a deep emotional connection to it, and that he can go out and skate from the heart. I guess I want him to skate to whatever music he will be able to believe in, whether that's two completely new programs, or an old one. ...I would love to see the Swan as his Olympic exhibition, skated exactly as it was in Torino, though ~Leyla I remain completely in awe of elite figure skaters

"Can a swan be more of a swan than the previous swan?" that made me think that perhaps he is making a new swan!! well we really don't know untill he reveals his new music, but i would be very happy with swan lake! i really don't want him to revamp 2006 olys swan, leave it the way it is "just perfect" anyhow just my 2 cents;-)
