I have yet to read one negative thing about Pop Star on Ice, I think it is wonderful how everyone, Johnny fan or not is embracing this film. Based on the reviews I would not be surprised if it is nominated for an Oscar for best documentary.

It would be a surprise, imho, but it would mean the world for the sport in the US (in terms of media attention).

It might not be eligible though, if it airs so quickly on Sundance; Academy rules for documentaries are hopelessly convoluted. A couple of years ago that would
definitely have made in ineligible; they've since loosened the rules but possibly not enough. It also might be required to have a normal theatrical
release-or at least play for a week in a certain theater in LA where all movies wanting normal Oscar consideration must play for at least a week.

I believe that a film only has to play a single showing in a theater in order to be eligible for the Academy Awards. Some studios have been known to release
films for one night in an obscure theater in the Midwest in late December, with no advertising, in order to make the deadline, although they aren't really
releasing the films until the next year. Also, TV movies are eligible for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, so the fact that something is shown on TV soon
after being in theaters should not be a problem.
It would be a real long shot for PSoI to be considered for an Oscar, since the documentaries that get nominated almost always deal with very serious social subjects, but we can still hope! Pippa

Judi, were you at the show at Montclair State University? I saw an Angel there who looked like you. Anyways, I thought I saw you at the premiere because you
look a lot like his costume designer.

Video is up on icenetwork! You need to register to see it, but you can do that for free.
Some great stuff - Johnny saying "I don't enjoy Colorado and I don't enjoy Champs Camp" (USFS will just love that, I'm sure), his mom saying she is only in the film at all because she "lost a bet with David and James" and more. I was surprised that David and James both speak with American accents! Their bios on the PSoI site say David was born and raised in Mexico and James in Italy, so I didn't expect that. Johnny and James also both say that after the next Olympics, there is a planned second documentary to follow up the TV series that will see how he has done since Vancouver. Pippa

I also enjoyed Johnny saying that he thinks he looks "like a skeleton with some kind of a bonnet on my head" in the film, because it was filmed right
after he went through a "really bad breakup" and he got super-skinny and had big, curly hair. The skinny I remember, but not so much the big hair,
LOL.

Woohoo! That was a great video from icenetwork.
I loved the interview with proud mom Patti and the Q&A with the very articulate David and James. I've met and spoken with them several times and had
no idea they weren't from the U.S. until I read their bios. They are very nice guys.

Yes thanks for that Reet. I hope we get some reviews from the Silver Springs shows. I like reading what people think of the movie. The reception to this film
has been great. Have there been any poor reviews? I haven't read any.

Susan at Lifeskate has a new video from the New York premiere up on her site today. She interviewed Johnny, his mom, Paris, and James and David, as well as
some guests such as Angela Maxwell. My favorite part is when Johnny asks his mom "What did you do while I was in the womb?" and she says "I
went out dancin' and partyin'".
