Wow. I'm in the process of looking around your website, Mr. Spinelli, and your compositions are really gorgeous. From what I have seen of the teaser and
trailer, the sounds and instrumentals stand out too.

I've been waiting for them to review this film and I'm glad it's a good one!
But even Outsports, who should know about these things, is going on about Olympic gold, like Johnny's career will be for naught if he doesn't achieve this. I hear this when sports announcers talk about Michelle Kwan, too, and she was far more decorated than Johnny is (I mean medals, not costumes, ha ha). Think of it--there's ONE Olympic gold medal for each figure skating discipline every four years. Even gymnasts, speedskaters, skiers etc get the chance for multiple medals and team medals etc. There's so much pressure put on these skaters and I find it so annoying when the media tries to pigeon-hole their skating career into winning/losing Olympic gold. Of course he's aiming for it and I want this for him almost as bad as he does.....but we all know only 1 winner. That doesn't mean the rest are a bunch of losers.

Of course I'm glad that this review (and others) are generally positive about the film, but every time I read a review it makes it sound like Johnny is
such a failure as a skater, someone who has talent but throws it away because he has no self-discipline or focus and can't win when it counts.
I hate to think this film might portray Johnny so negatively as an athlete. I know he hasn't always been the most consistent skater and he doesn't have one of the "big" international titles (Olympic, World or Grand Prix Final), but he has achieved so much more in this sport than 99.9999% of the people who go into it ever do, despite his very late start. Three national titles, a bronze at Worlds and numerous Grand Prix event medals is not a failure, even if he never wins another competition (which I'm sure won't happen). Pippa

I think that the reason why "Johnny is a lousy athlete" impression is given, is because the film focuses mostly on his worst season ever. Which is
unfortunate, if you ask me. If you look at Johnny's career as a whole, season 2006-2007 and the issues that accompanied it are not exactly representative
of his entire career. Had they filmed, I don't know, the 2004-2005 season, we would be getting a different reaction.
Also, remember that journalists and reviewers are huge fans of the hyperbole. I read someone call Johnny's season as a series of "flawless performances and absolute failures" or something like that. Now, relying on my memory alone, it's hard to remeber any flawless performances (or absolute failures for that matter), but he managed to make the GPF that year and place in top 10 at worlds so the failure couldn't have been THAT absolute. LOL I shudder to think how they would characterize Sandhu's or Verner's career then... LOL |

Of course, you'll get a more complete review from me after I actually see the film. But I know James and David, and I'm sure the film doesn't
portray him as a "lousy athlete" - although the truth is, he's not always the best competitor - I believe the film will try to show Johnny in all
his complexity.

Bingo. He's a wonderful athlete but his competitive spirit is up and down. Tarasova says in the clip that he's never ready for competition. It must be
very frustrating for his coaches. Evan has that singlemindedness that allows him to beat Johnny even though Johnny is the better skater. Maybe he has trouble
committing to one thing because he has so many interests. The tribulations of a renaissance man. lol

Johnny's twitter makes it sound like he's not in Seattle for the premeire, he says he's nervous and has an early morning practice. I'm
confused, didn't Johnny say he was going to the Seattle premeire?

Johnny told us he was not going to Seattle when we talked to him for the blog last week; he said he was planning to attend the New York premiere.
