"She has helped me to rekindle the fire and has given me the will to win."
Johnny made this comment about Galina in an interview on the Golden Skates website. The article was writtten by Elvin Walker and dated January 17, 2008. The article was titled Weir Fired up to Win Fourth U.S. National Title. (not sure if you have to credit the source)
****Keeper of Johnny's friendly rivalry with Evan****

I think a page about Johnny and his coach is a great idea, but I kind of feel that maybe Viktor should be included, too. Johnny has said several times that
Galina and Viktor coach him as a team, and even now that Lambiel is at his rink the two coaches are taking equal turns working individually with Johnny and
Stephane. It just seems like Viktor has a large role in Johnny's coaching and is important to him.
Just my opinion........ |

Both Galina and Viktor said really nice things about Johnny in Russian/Ukrainian press. If you need translated quotes, I can do it.

That would be great if you could translate some of it.

So, in interview to Russian magazine "Figure skating" Galina said that Johnny is a really nice person, very kind and open-hearted, very pleasant to
deal with. He has his own opinion about everything but listens to his coaches and fulfils all the requirements without arguments. She says she doesn't know
a skater that is more talented than Johnny and doesn't even know if there are limits of his capacities. If he controls his head and emotions, it will be
really hard to beat him.
Viktor, in the interview to Ukrainian sports web portal, says that Johnny is incredibly talented, and he didn't believe at first that Johnny started skating when he was 12, and his success for such a late start is amazing. Viktor doesn't find Johnny's style effeminate, he states that Johnny has natural lines and style, and ballet-like never meant "woman-like" since there are many male dancers and male ballet parts. Johnny is capable to win some big thing, last season he began to fight for his programs and it brought him success. As for Johnny, I love how he speaks about his coaches in last year's journal entries. "I need a hardcore woman who can yell at me and make me work even if I don't want to. " was my fave

These are my favorite! Weir was insulted. "There I was, leaving my coach of forever, and [Zmievskaya] chastised me as if I were a child. I knew enough," Weir said laughing, "not to talk back to this lady."

My favorite Galina/Johnny quote: "Johnnychik, you like Tinky Vinky."
Anyway, I went back to the journal entries, and maybe you'd like to take something from the December 2007 entry (I'll quote the whole passage): +Galina Yakovlevna at Competitions+Another quote about Galina from a journal entry: "She is very caring and we end up making jokes and talking about fashion for a good part of the day, but when I'm on the ice it is all business I get dictated to and I do my job." And to underline her humor once again: "Galina liked the number but told me I looked like a cartoon with all the blue make-up." Janina.
