I was laughing at that part, too. Johnny's charm didn't work … Even though I knew Galina is well known as a strict coach, after reading this, she sounds much more strict than I thought. Like army.
All the photos are absolutely fantastic, very fun to see many kinds of style of Johnny. Thank you for the link !

"By then Weir felt the woman he called his second mom, Hill, had stopped believing in him. "Even if she did think I could turn things around, I wasn't getting that impression. I felt her support waning," Weir said."

I don't think it's a criticism of Priscilla. Just because he felt that she didn't believe in him anymore, that's just his perception, even he says that. When you are down, your mind plays tricks on you and you might think everybody is out to get you or doesn't care about you. I think that Priscilla and Johnny handled their separation exceptionally well. Both of them. She did not say a single bad thing about him, even though you know that the media would love to get something tabloidy out there. Galina has said that he never said a single bad thing about Priscilla and only the positive. And if Johnny was thinking of quitting, how much blind faith can you have?
I like the article, especially the part about his life flashing before his eyes during the US Nationals skate. I love how shmoopy he is inside, it warms my heart. The pictures are great too.
PS: Kathleen Bangs is awesome. That is all.

LOL. Yeah, judging by the way she was gushing about him in Russian interviews, even at the time of COR, it might have taken her longer than others, but at this point she's pretty much a gonner. There's no shame in that. She put up a valiant fight, and that is to be respected.

Oh my, what a wonderful article. What incredible photos. My legs are all wobbly now. Wow. First, hats off to Kathleen Bangs for a beautiful, insightful article. I just LOVED how she put Johnny's frustrations over the past couple of years in perspective. I so appreciated her remark about the US media "crucifying" Johnny after the Olympics. How refreshing to see a journalist finally put the truth in print. The story of Johnny's decision to leave Priscilla and start training with Galina was very well-told. That could not have been an easy time for him. It's funny, you see something announced in the news, and it's so bland, so straightfoward. Then you read Johnny's account, and you see all the agonizing that went into the process. It sounds like Galina has given him exactly what he needed: tough love. She makes him work hard, and she encourages him to believe him himself. I loved the little tidbits about their personal relationship, and the piece that made me laugh the hardest was Johnny not revealing at the outset that he knows enough Russian to understand what she was saying, but that she didn't realize this until after he'd started training with her. Johnny, you sneaky devil! I was LOL at his initial inability to "charm" her. Like everyone else, I hope the arrival of Lambiel in Johnny's training sphere won't throw him off his game. I would hate to see him have to make yet another coaching change so close to the Olympic season. He needs to keep building on his recent accomplishments, not start all over again from Square One. And finally, those photos. Holy cow! Johnny is such an amazing model. What a gorgeous face! That personality of his just shines through in every picture. "What is special about Johnny is that he has his own style. He does not look like anybody else, he does not want to copy anybody else, and it's very hard to copy Johnny because of his unique talent," she said. "As much as I can give him, he takes - that's the best a coach can ask for."

You know what, it is the best in the business! Makes me wonder if a particular Swiss skater had more than one reason to choose NJ for his training...
