Briefly again ... it's been a loooong day. And not a terribly happy one for my favorites.
I missed the last group of Qualifying A to go see the practice at the other arena. By sheer luck, the first person I ran into there was Johnny's mother. That's when I first found out about his back spasms. She said they're really bad. When Johnny showed up for practice, he was obviously in pain and holding his back. He hardly skated his program at all, except for trying some jumps. Amazingly, he was landing most of them. Sheer will!
All considered, I thought he skated great in the qualifying. I believe did five triples and stepped out of the quad slightly, but went for it. With back spasms, that's pretty amazing.
Matt Savoie, on the other hand, had a terribly time on the ice. And his practice was wonderful, so I don't know what happened. So sad.
I'll try to upload some pictures later on, but I'm not sure I'll get to it tonight.
