My turn to apologize for duplication. I think we're all scrambling here at night after another long day and with little time to read all the threads.
I must say I have very mixed feelings after today's SP. I'm very proud of Johnny going all out, considering what he's been through (the injury, the long season, etc.). Except for messing up that spin at the end (no doubt due to the injury), he did great, landed everything, and created a mood like only he can. But I could not believe the marks. This is not a friendly panel of judges, to put it mildly. My apologies to fans of other skaters, but almost all the top guys had major errors and missed elements and yet they're are ahead. (And don't get me strated on Sandhu and the qualifying marks, sorry guys.) Joubert and Oda skated great, but I don't see how they get the component marks they do. This was not Johnny's best performance, but the component marks in no way reflected the quality of the skating.
The practice was also mixed. Johnny pretty much ran through his jumps and landed them all beautifully, but left the ice before they played his music. (So no practice photos.) He wore another CCCP jacket today, this one all black.
I was much relieved that Johnny's back is better today, according to Patti. He wasn't in obvious pain like yesterday, so that's a little good news. I know these back spasms don't vanish overnight, but at least it's not a serious injury, especially with the world tour about to start.
I know I promised pictures last night and didn't make it. I'll try to upload something tonight if I can. If not, soon.
