Well, IIRC Yu-Na actually mentioned that she would like to retire from competitive skating after the 2010 Olympic (with a medal, I assume) so she can begin a "normal" life, such as going to college, hanging out with friends more, having a boyfriend and etc.--totally understandable for a seventeen-year-old I don't know if she's changed her mind since then, but as she is such a nice, hard-working, and mature girl for her age, personally I would say she deserves a break if she does feel like it--although as a fan I would be dissappointed and missing her a lot But as life is long and full of turns, who knows what will happen in two years? I guess we should just wait and see. Yeah, she did look a bit taken aback and even a bit embarrassed--especially with all the camera and reporters around, I'll say. I think she was just not as media-savvy as Johhny was (I actually find it hilarious for me to use this term to describe him ). She is a young girl after all. A little bit shyness becomes her and in fact makes her more adorable IMO Even though I can't see it happen anytime soon, they'd really look fantastic as an ice-dancing couple. Just as Johnny has mentioned in the interview, their styles fit: flowing, fluid, smooth, graceful, or as Peggy Flemming has said about Yu-Na, "nothing flashy and very gentle to the ice" (I like this description!) It would be lovely to see them skate together again. I hope they consider redoing it next month on the "Dreams on Ice" Japan tour! I just watched this clip: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MUkO18LsZrQ I think Johnny was really into his new role as a pair skater! He went to Yu-Na and held her hand when they were leaving the rink. A lot of pair skaters and ice-dancing couples do this with their partners. In the clip, Scott did the same thing to Tessa. He went to her so that they could leave the rink together. I bet it's a habit one develops from doing pair skating or ice-dancing all these years. (BTW, I cannot help but laugh at poor Patrick Chan I think Scott Moir literally shoved him away when they were lining together. It's like: "hey dude, I should stand next to Tessa, not you!" Then when Patrick was pushed next to Yu-Na and saw Johhny approaching, he immediately stepped aside, like "OK, OK, I know I shouldn't stand here.")
Sorry for the long post. I guess I'm on "Festa on Ice" high And thanks for everyone's links, reports, downloads, and etc ETA: I had some time before going to bed so I dug a bit This is an interview Yu-Na did back in Dec 2006. http://yunaforum.com/index.php?showtopic=37 She mentioned in the end: ""My goals aren't as grand as other people might think. I think even being in the top level of ladies is a big success. It's [success] not just about being first. In fact, there has never been a Korean athlete in the top ten at Olympics [my note: or Worlds, or any other ISU competition for that matter]. My ambitions are not exclusively focused on the Olympic gold medal. I want to do well at Vancouver, then give up my eligibility, and go pro. I'd like to live abroad, skating in ice shows and other related things." BTW, in this interview she also mentioned she liked Johnny (For your entertainment. This is another interview that I dug out, probably done early this year. http://yunaforum.com/index.php?showtopic=245 This time when asked about who her favorite male skater or celebrity was, she answered: "Johnny Weir and Stephane Lambiel." She should be very happy next month on the "Dreams on Ice" tour ) This is a post from GS: http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showpost.php?p=315479&postcount=13 The poster said Yu-Na in a post-World interview repeated her wish to retire from competitive skating after the 2010 Olympics.
