s 0.5 a big difference for shoes?

It depends on the shoe. Some shoes are just cut larger than others. I am usually a 10, but sometimes I go down to a 9.5, and I have a couple of pairs of size 11s.

Skates are fit a bit differently than street shoes. They are supposed to be snug, and if you buy from USA Skates, they will have you measure around your foot in different places with a tape measure in addition to giving the length. My skates are actually a smaller size than my street shoes...it just worked out that way since my feet are really narrow (like skis!).

Different brands of skates will likely fit your foot differently as well. I tried on some different brands, but Riedell worked best for me. I love them muchly!
