Different audiences connect to different styles and skaters. Johnny's fans won't have much overlap with Candeloro or Stojko fans. And no doubt your average ice show audience will be more impressed with someone jumping into the crowd half-naked than with a skater putting his soul on the line with every step. A more knowledgeable audience (Worlds, Nationals) DOES appreciate Johnny's style. When you're part of the audience, you can sense it. But instead of clapping and screaming, there's a hush when Johnny skates, as if people are afraid to breathe or they'll break the mood. They're into it ... you just can't hear them until he's done.

To the extent that something is lacking, it's probably the music. Not that there's anything wrong with it, and all of us love his choices. But I have to agree with Dick Button that more powerful music would enhance the crowd reaction. But that's up to Johnny to decide, and I suspect he'd rather do it his way :30
