Just a brief report on the first set of men's practices today (well, only the first 7 of 8 groups).... I'm sick with a cold and headache 
so gave up for the day and am back at my hotel. There's another set of
men's practices this evening, but I won't be there.
No shows- Abbot, Kozuka, Russian boys, Swedish boys.
Lysacek - OK practice, fell on footwork.
Mroz - what a mess
Oda - eek! terrible practice, fell on quad attempt, fell on 3A, popped something else, almost skated into the boards but didn't crash. Morozov giving him the "death look."
Joubert - good practice, fans mobbing him at the boards, even though there is no access to the boards in this rink, LOL!
Ponsero - not good practice
Chan - full run through of FS, one step out.
Contesti - I've never seen him skate live before, but he lands really heavy when he jumps. Like an elephant or a Mack truck, hmm having trouble with the right metaphor here.
The weather here is cold, cloudy, windy.
Not exactly the
Southern California trip I had envisioned. The weather is supposed to improve for the rest of the week. Martha and I did go to Universal Studios yesterday and
had a fabulous time!

observations and insights. Hope you're feeling better soon. This will be likely the only way I get any news of how the competition--and the U.S. placements
work out. So I'm even more grateful for your on the ground presence there. Do you think you will have any chance to see Johnny there when he does the
interview? Kind of seems unlikely I guess, but hope springs eternal. Have a simply wonderful time.
